 Code of Conduct for Cricket Club Members and Guests

All Members and Guests of Colne Cricket Club will:

·   Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person within the context of Cricket

·   Treat everyone equally and not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief

·   Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination if witnessed

·   Display high standards of behaviour

·   Promote the positive aspects of Cricket e.g. fair play

·   Encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials

·   Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations and arguing with match officials

·   Recognise good performance not just match results

·   Place the well-being and safety of Young People above the development of performance

·   Ensure that activities are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual

·   Respect Young People’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in Cricket

·   Not smoke, drink or use banned substances whilst actively working with Young People in the Club.

·   Not provide Young People with alcohol when they are under the care of the Club

·   Follow ECB guidelines set out in the “Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’ and any other relevant guidelines issued

·   Report any concerns in relation to a Young Person, following reporting procedures laid down by the ECB

·   In addition to the above, all Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers will:

·   Hold relevant qualifications and be covered by appropriate insurance

·   Always work in an open environment (i.e. avoid private or unobserved situations and encourage an open environment)

·   Inform Players and Parents of the requirements of Cricket

·   Know and understand the ECB’s ‘Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’


Code of Conduct / set of rules for Young People

Using the Code of Conduct for cricket Members and Guests, and consulting with all the junior members at the cricket club, create a specific code of conduct for the junior members relating to their time at your cricket club.  The guidance below may also help.

Colne Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members.

Colne Cricket Club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents/carers or guardians associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others.

Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with Ivan Rhodes (Club Vice Chairman).

As a member of Colne Cricket Club you are expected to abide by the following junior code of conduct: 

·   All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.

·   All members must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

·   Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.

·   Members must wear suitable kit – trainers/boots/tracksuit bottoms/whites – for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.

·   Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.

·   Junior members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.

·   Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.


Anti-Bullying Policy

Colne Club will not accept or condone bullying and will address all forms of bullying.

Everybody involved with Cricket, whatever their role, has a responsibility to work to stop bullying.

Action to Help the Victim and Prevent Bullying at this Cricket Club

An individual should

  1. Take all signs of bullying very seriously.
  2. Encourage all Young People to speak and share their concerns, help the victim to speak out and tell the person in charge or someone in authority. Create an open environment.
  3. Investigate all allegations and take action to ensure the victim is safe. Speak with the victim and the bully/ies separately.
  4. Reassure the victim that you can be trusted and will help them, although do not promise that you will tell what has been said.
  5. Keep a record of what is said (what happened, by whom, when).
  6. Report any concerns to the Child Welfare Officer or Deputy.

Action towards the Bully/ies

  1. Talk with the bully/ies, explain the situation and try to get the bully/ies to understand the consequences of his/her/their behaviour. Seek an apology to the victim/s.
  2. Inform the bully/ies parents/guardians/carers.
  3. Insist on the return of borrowed items and that the bully/ies compensate the victim.
  4. Provide any support required by the victim's coach.
  5. Impose sanctions as necessary after consultation with the Club's Executive.
  6. Encourage and support the bully/ies to change behaviour.
  7. Hold meetings with the family/ies to report on progress.
  8. Keep a written record of action taken.

 

Health And Safety Policy

The Aim of this policy is to ensure, as far as practicable that there exists safe conditions for the playing and watching of cricket in an area covering the grounds and buildings of the Colne Cricket Club and any other venues where our teams may be playing or training.

In order to achieve this it is considered important that:

  1. Periodic risk assessments are carried out, recorded and acted upon as appropriate.
  2. Accidents and incidents are reported and logged.
  3. Coaching staff are cognizant of their roles and tasks to ensure player safety.
  4. First aid equipment is available at all times.
  5. Equipment and machinery are stored appropriately, and used and operated only by those people over the age of 18 who have received relevant training.
  6. Materials and substances are stored and used in a safe manner in all areas of Colne Cricket Club (this covers bar, kitchen preparation area and outfield buildings used for storage of, for example, calor gas, paint weed killer etc).
  7. Players, spectators and coaching staff take all reasonable precautions to ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times.

Nets Safety Policy

Nets used for ARRANGED practice Sessions

For the safety of our junior members (those being under the age of 18) the Executive Committee has laid down the following procedures:

  1. The sessions MUST be conducted under the supervision of an ECB qualified coach.
  2. When batting facing a hard ball the proper protective items, including helmet, MUST be worn.
  3. Before practice commences Coaches MUST check the cage and netting to ensure a safe environment.
  4. Any equipment, including kit bags to be stored away from the net.
  5. All players using the net practice must behave in a proper and correct manner.
  6. After each practice session the equipment MUST be stored away properly.
 >Nets used by Junior Members outside normal practice sessions

The Club will not accept any responsibility for unaccompanied children using the nets facility.

Members, under the age of 18, using the net facility are the responsibility of their parents/guardians/carers.

People using the nets without the supervision of a qualified coach do so AT THEIR OWN RISK.

The use of Helmets and other protective wear is essential when using a hard ball.

Helmets Policy

The Rules of Colne Cricket Club state that the wearing of helmets by Players under the age of 18 is compulsory.

Under no circumstances will the Club accept the parents/guardians/carers consent for a Junior Player not to do so.

Our Rules state:

  1. A Junior player must at all times wear a helmet with a faceguard when batting against a hard ball.
  2. A Junior Player must at all times wear a helmet with a faceguard when standing up to the stumps when a hard ball is being used.

Fast Bowling Policy

The Rules of the Colne Cricket Club state that the Club complies with the English Cricket Board directives on fast Bowling by members up to and including U19 age group.

A fast bowler is defined as a bowler to whom a wicketkeeper in the same age group would IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES stand back to take the ball.

The Directive states:

Changing Room Policy

The Executive committee has agreed that a Changing Policy applying to Adults and Young People under the age of 16 must be in place.

This Policy applies to all HOME and AWAY matches.

A poster must be displayed in the HOME and AWAY dressing room at this Club.

  1. Adults should not change or shower at the same time using the same facility as Young People.
  2. Adults should try to change at separate times to Young People.
  3. If Adults and Young People need to share a changing facility, the Club must have consent from the Parents/Guardians/Carers that their child/children can share a changing room with Adults in the Club.
  4. If Young People need to share changing facilities with Adults, their Parents/Guardians/Carers should be allowed to supervise them whilst they are changing.
  5. If Young People are uncomfortable changing or showering with Adults, no pressure should be placed on them to do so. In this situation the Young People should be encouraged to do this at home.

Photography Policy

Colne Cricket Club is keen to promote positive images of Young People playing Cricket and is not banning the use of photographic or video recording equipment.

However the Club must protect the interests of our Young People.

The Executive Committee has agreed that the following procedures must be followed:

  1. For coaching purposes the consent of a child's parents/guardians/carers must be obtained prior to any filming taking place by completion of the appropriate form. The video must be stored in a secure place. The Parents/Guardians/Carers and Young person must provide written consent if used for analysis.
  2. The Club does not allow the photographing of child/children either by camera, video or mobile phone or any other means unless the prior written consent of the Committee parents/guardians/carers is obtained.
  3. Before any filming or photographing takes place the child's written consent must be obtained.
  4. Images must convey the best principles and aspects of Cricket such as dress, fairness and safety.
  5. Images must not be sexual or exploitative in nature nor open to obvious misinterpretation or misuse.
  6. Images must only be taken by authorised persons i.e. Parents/guardians/carers or authorised press.
  7. All images must be securely stored.
  8. If a Young Person(s) is named in a publication his/her photograph must not be used.
  9. If a photograph is used the Young Person(s) must not be used.
  10. Inappropriate use of images must be reported to the Club Welfare Officer.

Bowling Machine Policy

The Bowling Machine is for the use of ALL the members of the Club.

The Committee has agreed that any USER wishing to make use of the Bowling Machine MUST follow the guidelines set out below:

  1. You may only use the Bowling Machine if accompanied by a qualified User.
  2. Any member using the machine does so at his or her own risk.
  3. The qualified User accepts full responsibility for the equipment. He/She must ensure the safety of all people using the machine whilst in their care. All Users must inform people of the importance of Health and Safety and the implied acceptance of the 'Rules of Use' by reading the User notes.
  4. Any User that breaches the manufacturers recommended operating procedures does so completely at their own risk and the Club will accept no liability for the User's failure to comply.
  5. Any User found to be using the machine improperly will be suspended from further use and may lead to disciplinary action.
  6. All Users must complete the USAGE FORM prior to taking the machine.
  7. The Club reserves the right to introduce hiring charges should the Committee feel the need to.
  8. Any User causing damage may be liable for repair charges.
  9. Any User signing the USAGE FORM accepts FULL responsibility for the machine and all sundries including balls. Any loss or damage will result in the User being liable for replacement or repair charges.
  10. Any User either in breach of any of the 'Rules of Use' risks suspension from further use and possible disciplinary action.
  11. Nobody under the age of 18 MAY OPERATE the bowling machine
