DAVID SWARBRICK

Although leaving Colne I am hoping to return in a few years especially being
so close to the club record number of victims. I have had some great
memories from my 15 years here with the 2 Worsley Cup finals, being up there
with the best moments of my life, I have taken this decision because I would
like to spend more quality time with my young family and with another baby
on the way, it seems even more of an appropriate time to leave. I find
that
with working Monday-Friday alongside double headers means I cannot spend the
time that I would like with Nina and Joshua.
I am very aware that through these same reasons I have not been able to show
the commitment that I would have liked in terms of practice or spending more
time on the club. I still wish to play cricket but only once at a
weekend.
With Nina working on a Saturday, it means the only quality time we would be
able to spend as a family would be a Sunday, and with the Lancashire League
predominantly being a 'Sunday' League it would mean playing very few games
in the season. I also feel that it would be a perfect time to blood a new
wicketkeeper and it would be very unfair to keep replacing him with me
whenever I was available.

Broth-Heads
Vanquish the Barmpots
A
hastily arranged friendly between the juniors at the club saw the largest ever
display of pie-chucking ever seen at the Horsfield on Wednesday night. The two
sides led by Luke Bentley & Alex Barker smashed 289 runs from just 37.2
overs as one pie after another had its crust well and truly thrashed. Each
bowler in turn went at around 8 per over as the batters reigned supreme. Several
times the ball could be
heard screaming ‘Ouch’
as it whistled to the boundary. Poor Adam Procter having tried an
over of what can only be loosely described as ‘pace’ then resorted to
non-turning spin and at the commencement of his third over requested from Skip
Bentley if he could bowl underarm –
Luca’s response was
if he did he would be visiting the Great Pie Chucker in the sky.
The
Barmpots finally totaled
144 for the loss of 8
wickets
The
Broth-heads were certainly daunted by the total they faced but they hadn’t
accounted for 4 overs from ‘Reg’ Kegg. He sent the whole lot down – Pork,
Meat & potato, steak & kidney, even fruit-pies. Not since Oddies opened
in
Market
St
have so many pies been seen in town. What seemed like a difficult task was
achieved with 2.4 overs to spare.
The
umpiring amidst this carnage was of the highest order.
