The club were delighted to announce the signing of South African Bjorn Fortuin as professional for the 2017 season. However, we regrettably have to announce that Bjorn Fortuin will not be joining Colne this season due to a call up for the South African A side. We wish him the best of luck in the future and will keep a track of his progress.
We are delighted, however, to announce the signing of India A Captain Unmukt Chand as our new professional for 2017. Unmukt is a top class opening batsmen and also bowls off spin. He captained India U19s to World Cup success in 2012 - slamming an unbeaten century to guide his side to victory over Australia in the final. In 2015 he was also appointed Captain of the India A side for the series against Australia.
Unmukt comes to us the highest pedigree and we look forward to his arrival at the Horsfield.
Our thanks go to Cric-intro and to the Ace Cricket Exchange for their helping in securing this signing.
Lifelong Colne Cricket Club supporter, Lionel Fry, sadly died in December of last year. Lionel had an extensive collection of Wisden cricket books dating back to the 1950's which have been given to the Club, to sell, in order to raise much needed funds.
The collection contains a complete run of Wisden Almanack's from 1954 to 1994. If anyone is interested in purchasing any of this collection please contact Ian Walker on 07790909930.
A complete list of other book titles is available upon request. All reasonable offers accepted.
Ahead of the forthcoming season, Colne Cricket Club is appealing for volunteers to assist with a wide range of activities both on match days and during the week.
From our chairman, Gary Hunt: “The existing volunteers, who do a fantastic job, need assistance to ensure that the Club continues to function professionally throughout the 2017 season. There’s a wide range of roles that we need help with, some which are more time consuming than others. So we ask that if there is anybody who is willing to donate some of their time on a regular basis or as a one off to please contact us.”
Roles at the club where assistance is required range from work within the tea room on match days serving and preparing food and drinks, assistance with the junior training sessions on Wednesday evenings, acting as deputy umpire for 2nd XI games through to ground maintenance tasks at the Horsfield.
Contact club on firstname.lastname@example.org or speak with Gary Hunt on 07737102139 or Matt Walker on 07738621958 if you feel you can help our Club.
